The Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering (AOE) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in aerospace propulsion effective August 2026. The position will be filled, depending upon qualifications, at a rank commensurate with experience. We seek applicants from a range of fundamental and applied specializations in aerospace propulsion systems including, but not limited to: aerodynamics of inlets and exhausts, propulsion/airframe integration, electric/ion/plasma applications for propulsion, propulsion systems modeling, propellants and fuels, aerothermodynamics/combustion diagnostics, combustion, reacting and nonequilibrium flows, multiphase flows, aeroacoustics and aerothermoacoustics Research in emerging and rapidly developing areas with the potential to transition and impact real-world aerospace and ocean engineering systems is particularly valued. Candidates will be expected to develop and sustain a strong, externally funded research program; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; and advise students at all levels. Candidates are sought who have a vision for actively pursuing new, collaborative research thrusts at the Advanced Propulsion and Power Laboratory (APPL, ). Candidates are expected to contribute to teaching Aerospace or Ocean Engineering subjects at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering () includes 45 faculty members overseeing more than $14M in annual research expenditures, with approximately 260 full-time graduate students and 700 undergraduate students.
