Job Description

Our office is in need of a reliable medical assistant who can provide first-class care to our patients. You’ll be responsible for welcoming patients, scheduling appointments and work closely with our healthcare staff to take patient histories, collect test samples, and help with examinations. Responsibilities:

  • Talk with the patient about the reason for their visit and record their personal information and medical history to share with healthcare staff
  • Put together insurance forms, noting patient symptoms, diagnoses, test results, treatment instructions, and prescriptions in the patient records
  • Help healthcare staff during examination by handing the correct supplies and medical instruments to the physician, positioning the patient, and assisting with other tasks as needed
  • Say hello to patients when they come to the office, answer the phone, schedule appointments, and answer inquiries about prescription refills and treatment to ensure patients have a pleasant experience at our office
  • Draw blood and prepare blood samples for laboratory tests under supervision
Preoperative Duties:
  • Meet the patient in the preoperative area and ensure consent and documents are complete and accurate
  • Assist in patient preparation, including positioning, site preparation and draping in accordance with procedural and safety standards
  • Ensure all necessary surgical instruments and equipment are prepared and readily available for procedures
  • Conduct preoperative briefings with the surgical team to review case details and procedural requirements
Intraoperative Support:
  • Provide direct surgical assistance to the operating physician, including tissue handling, retraction, hemostasis, and suturing
  • Utilize advanced surgical techniques and instrumentation to facilitate efficient and precise procedures
  • Maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure, adhering to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
  • Monitor and respond to intraoperative needs adjusting support as necessary to ensure seamless surgical flow
Postoperative Responsibilities:
  • Assist in patient stabilization and transfer patient from operating table to recovery area
  • Ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures are complete
  • Participate in debriefings to assess procedural outcomes and identify areas for improvement
Qualifications:
  • Able to use a computer to complete administrative tasks
  • Previous experience as a medical assistant performing administrative duties or similar role in a healthcare work environment is preferred
  • Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited medical assisting program a supervised externship in a healthcare setting
  • Graduated from high school or received GED
  • Strong communication skills and customer service skills
  • Must hold a valid and current Texas Medical Board issued Surgical Assistant License
  • Valid and current Certification from a recognized accrediting body such as the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) is required
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in surgical assisting in a hospital or an outpatient surgical center
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proficient medical terminology with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in various surgical specialties, including but not limited to cardiovascular, neurosurgery, orthopedic, general surgery and minimally invasive procedures
