Job Description

A Kempsville Building Materials (a division of Carter Lumber) CDL Class A Driver is responsible for transporting and dropping off materials while providing professional customer service to contractors and do-it-yourselfers.  This is accomplished by appropriately using company vehicles and equipment to deliver products to customers in a safe and timely manner.  Safety, building loads, inventory control, and product knowledge are all components of this position.  A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Requirements to be Considered for this Position:

  • Previous delivery experience with building materials
  • An acceptable driving record and a Class A CDL License
  • Familiarity with delivery equipment is desirable
  • Ability to participate effectively as a team member and good customer service skills
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Tractor Trailer experience 
  • Experience operating a truck mounted forklift (moffett) 
  • Monday - Friday. No overnight travel or weekends! 

Responsibilities of the Position:

Delivery Activities

  • Ensures safety of self and others at all times; delivers products to customers on-time; builds loads and checks accuracy;
  • Assists customers with loading and/or unloading; interacts with customers at the jobsite; ensures proper paperwork processes are followed; provides customer service, is aware of hazards created by a changing job site or roadway conditions.
  • Portrays a positive representation of his/her company while in the public eye.

Knowledge & Training

  • Identifies personal growth needs and learning opportunities.
  • Completes required orientation and safety training.
  • Commits to continued learning on products, packages, procedures and more.
