Job Description

About Our Client

Our client is a trusted leader in planning, building, and operating facilities across the full lifecycle of construction projects from early planning and funding through ongoing operations. With a strong reputation for delivering complex public and private projects, the company is built on innovation, financial discipline, and client partnership.

Position Summary

The Controller will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team, reporting to the CFO (or equivalent). This individual will oversee all aspects of accounting integrity, compliance, and financial reporting while driving process efficiencies and supporting strategic growth. A strong background in construction accounting — including Percentage of Completion (POC) methods and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards — is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all accounting functions: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and project/job costing

  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes; ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP

  • Apply Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and ASC 606 revenue recognition principles to ensure proper project revenue reporting and compliance

  • Partner with project managers and operations teams to monitor project profitability, margin reporting, and cash flow management

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide financial insight to leadership for decision-making

  • Strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all policies and regulatory requirements

  • Coordinate external audits and tax filings, serving as the primary point of contact for external accounting partners

  • Implement process improvements and evaluate financial systems (ERP, construction-specific software) to enhance efficiency and accuracy

  • Mentor and develop accounting staff; build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred

  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with 3–5 years in a leadership role

  • Experience in construction, facilities management, real estate development, or other project-based industries

  • Proven expertise in Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards (AEC 606)

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting

  • Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm is a plus, but not required

  • Proficiency with construction-focused ERP/financial systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or similar)

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated success in leading, coaching, and developing accounting teams
