Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a  Fire Protection Designer  who will support the team in providing our clients with: life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control system design and special inspections; site inspections and witnessing of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; performance-based design; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.

 

The Anchorage Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 45+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of five, all of whom will provide the successful candidate with training, mentorship, and support to help grow your career. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office and supporting each other to deliver engineering solutions that make the world a safer place.

 

The successful candidate will also provide assistance and engineering support in the development and modification of engineering documents and may serve as the lead Designer responsible for assigning computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) work.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in drafting and design
• Technical or associate degree in engineering or related sciences preferred
• NICET level III or IV preferred
• Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards and how to apply within design work
• Strong AutoCAD skills required with ability to follow CAD standards
• Strong organizational, technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Able to manage effort on multiple projects concurrently
• Able to train and assign work to Designers and CAD professionals
• Able to support field investigation and construction administration activities
• Able to size and lay out basic system components
• Familiarity with hydraulic programs for designing fire suppression systems
• Familiarity with overall system design for fire detection and alarm and/or suppression systems
• Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Detail oriented, possess a high degree of accuracy
• Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
